The Last Dance

Dance after dance,
He chooses his partners.
Every girl in the room,
Wishes to be selected.

She enjoys the dance,
And before it lasts,
Her heart is broken,
As he moves to the next dance,
The next girl,
The next song,
The next smiles,
All in front of her eyes.

She knows,
It was just a dance,
Exactly as planned,
But her heart aches.

"Last song" is called out,
Her last chance gone, she thought.
Then, he comes,
Requesting her hand,
For he had saved the last dance for her.

Many years later,
Many parties passed,
Her heart does not ache anymore,
As he dances with others some more.

Has she grown up enough,
Not to give away her heart again so quickly, so fast?
Or has she given up on love?
Maybe he has no room in her heart anymore!
She laughs at the thought,
Who was she kidding, after all?

As the night fades away,
As she sits to enjoy the closing songs,
Here he comes again,
Asking for her hand.
Ah, she knew the answer all along,
She still has the last dance!
She always had the last dance.
