Free like a bird

She could have had her lovebird in a cage,
All to herself,
Singing her love songs everyday.
Or she could have taken shelter in a cage herself,
Staying away from all the storms and blizzards,
Had she played by the rules,
Singing a song or two everyday.

How could she enjoy that though?
When she could feel the bird's desire to fly?
Or when she could see the cage?
What sense would that make?
When she already knew what it is like,
To fly through mountains, thunders, and rains,
Before delivering her song at the perfect time and place?
Or to hear a song, worthy of the hardships of the way?

Lovebirds in cages were not her dream
But those flying back home freely,
Time after time,
For they could not wait,
To sing their latest songs.
